Is there a monorail or train from the Denver, Colorado airport to the ski mountains like Breckenridge?

Feb-6-2010 Posted under Ski Breckenridge

We are flying into Denver and we heard there was some sort of train, monorail, light rail you could take to the mountains. Is this true? And how and where do I find more info on it? We are looking into going to Breckenridge.

Unfortunately there is not. The good people of Colorado listened to the right wing crazies who were funded by the road building industry and the project was voted down. Your options are fairly pricey shuttles.

What are the best alpine racing skis for a new england skier?

Feb-6-2010 Posted under Ski Alpine

Im hoping to get some new skis soon and i want to know which ones to get. I generally ski in connecticut aka icy condtions and like the trails and racing. I do not race competivelybut ive skiing for a while and is pretty good but i have free style skis and thats not really what i like. What would be the best alpine racing skis in this situation? Price is no more then 1200$

Well, first of all your not skiing Ice.. As a ski instructor, bulletproof or white lightning (pure ice) is only found on racing pitches where water is injected into the snow to create super hard and slick conditions.

Remember if you buy alpine racing specific skis (Rossignol World Cups for instance) they are super rigid and NOT easy to handle. I would say if you want a great racing style ski but not racing specific go with the Elan corporation. They make INCREDIBLE all wood skis that last years and years.

I have a pair of Ripsticks from the first year they were produced and they ski better than any professional racing ski Ive ever ski-ed on (PSIA level II trained and Race Instructor.)

Also check out Scotty Bob out west. He makes custom all wood skis that are PERFECT for recreational skiers that like to use lots of edge and make effortless (yeah right) and silent turns.

GOOD LUCK!

Brad

Look into hotels in Idaho Springs or Dillon or Georgetown

things to do in south lake tahoe?

Feb-6-2010 Posted under Lake Tahoe Hotels

im going to be stuck in south lake tahoe for my dads work convention without a car. i will be staying at one of the hotels downtown near the heavenly village. anyone know things to do walking distance from there?

Well besides being surrounded by casinos ;) there are lots of novelty shops/cinema about to browse, without knowing what you are into it’s hard to recommend anything specifically.

One thing that you definitely must take a ride on is the Gondola lift, it goes all the way up to the peaks and you’ll see a view you’ll never forget for a long time. You can also take one of the cruise ferries out for a dinner/tour around the lake.

Whats the best place to vacation at in Lake Geneva, Illinois?

Feb-6-2010 Posted under Lake Vacations

Me and girlfriend, just need some tips, places to stay and things to do. Thanks?

Lake Geneva is in Wisconsin first of all. The Grand Geneva is a great hotel. The Geneva Inn is also nice, more upscale and smaller though. They have a great restaurant that over looks the lake (it is called the Grand View) I highly recommend it for Sunday brunch. You will need a reservation though. In nearby Delevan Wisconsin (about 20 minutes away) is a great resort called Lake Lawn Lodge. It is also an awesome place to stay. Have fun!!!

Reasonable Hotels / Cabins on Cumberland Lake with short notice this time of year?

Feb-6-2010 Posted under Lake Lodging

My wife wants to go to Cumberland Lake this weekend and we need to find a good hotel / lodge to stay in. Any suggestions?

I don’t think this is a peak season for Cumberland Lake, so short notice shouldn’t be a big issue. I have always had very good success with http://www.hotwire.com for travel arrangements, to include lodging. There are others online that are available also, such as expedia and travelocity.

how to find the cheapest hotel in south lake Tahoe, CA?

Feb-3-2010 Posted under Lake Tahoe Hotels

I’ve found the cheapest motels are along South Lake Tahoe Blvd and are never listed in the Tahoe accomodations sites. I’ve stayed at the Super 8 which is $50 a night on weekdays and $85 dollars a night on weekends. Doing a Yahoo Local search for motel should return similar ones. I stayed there with four people and didn’t have any complaints. They were very helpful when we were trying to hook a rented DVD player up to our TV. Most of these motels are a few blocks from Heavenly and a half mile from the Nevada border
