physics help please thanks?
Squaw Valley ski area in California claims that its lifts can move 46400 people per hour. If the average lift carries people about 200 m (vertically) higher, estimate the maximum total power needed. (Assume an average mass per person of 70 kg.)
The energy to move vertically 200 m one 70 kg person is mgh = 70Kg*10m/sec^2*200m = 140000 Joules.
The minimum power to move vertically 200 m 464000 people is
=140000 Joules * 46400/sec (answer is in Watts)
Note this is the minimum power assuming 100 % efficiency. In reality, you almost never achieve 100 % efficiency. Hence, the maximum power is impossible to calculate without an assumed efficiency.

What is the best resort in Tahoe to get a season pass to?
I got a season pass to Heavenly last year and really liked it, but they are raising their prices alot and want to look into getting a pass at another resort. Since I only recently started skiing at Lake Tahoe, Im not sure what some good resorts are. (Im a student and my budget is somewhat limitied so Vail prices are a bit out of reach)
Thanks!
While I can’t vouch for the Northstar/Sierra combo, as I have not skied either of them, I do agree with lalala, in Alpine Meadows.
I’ve only skied there once, but it was really, really awesome.
Second only to Heavenly.

Please help me buy (Alpine) ski equipments… (please read the details!)?
i’m skiing (Alpine) for about 5 years now i wanna buy new skis but i don’t know what are the
specifics of good skis, boots, fit…! (for example the shape of good skis or the height or
weight…!) or do you recommend any special Brand?!
THANKS A LOT!!!
There are really a lot of things that you need to consider when you’re choosing a pair of skis. Without knowing your height, weight, ability level, skiing style, etc., it’s impossible to recommend anything. The best thing to do would be to go to a local shop and have a salesperson who knows what they’re talking about help you select a pair. All of the brands are good, it’s just a matter of which model will fit your style the best.
Skiing and lodging in or around the Denver area?
I’m planning a trip to Denver to ski (and snowboard) for Spring Break.
What are the best "parts" of the city to stay in, and what are some good ski mountains (the more challenging, the better)?
Any other nightlife suggestions are also welcome.
Thanks in advance!
As a heads up, the closest major ski areas to Denver are 60+ miles away. Although 60 miles doesn’t sound far, the traffic is terrible on the weekends and it can take 2+ hours each way. So, if the goal of your trip is skiing, you may want to stay up in the mountains instead of in Denver. FYI, Breckenridge and Vail have the best nightlife of the ski areas. If you’re looking to party for spring break, I’d go to Breck or Vail.
For challenging skiing, I suggest Copper Mountain, they have the best and steepest bowls with a complimentary snowcat ride to the steepest terrain. Vail is large and a good place to ski, but their back bowls aren’t too steep. Arapahoe Basin also has challenging terrain and is close to Denver making it an easy day trip if you don’t stay in the mountains.
If you choose to stay in Denver, definitely stay downtown. The best nightlife is in the Lodo (lower-downtown) area. The Lodo area has all types of bars and clubs (from dive bars to Vegas/Miami style clubs) to suit any taste.
Have fun.
I would like to get married at a beautiful place in Lake Tahoe. Church, outdoor or hotel. Any suggestions?
If your having a Wedding in lake tahoe, it depends when (you obvoisly woudnt want to be outside in winter), but if in the summer outside would be my pick, and in winter, a hotel.
How do I buy a vacation home in the Lake Tahoe area to use and rent out.?
I want to be able to use the property 2 – 4 weeks a year. It would be great if it would pay for itself month to month, but I could handle a monthly payment. What areas should I look in? Is there a property management group I should know about? Real Estate agent I should know about? Should I wait a year or two for the market to come down?
NOW IS AN EXCELLENT TIME TO CONSIDER LOOKING INTO THE ADVANTAGES OF HOME OWNERSHIP! There are over 19,000 new and re-sale homes currently available under market value! There are many foreclosures, bank owned homes and short sales that are priced very low. Now is the time that we can make low offers, because there are a lot of vacant homes and sellers have to drop the price just to get noticed.
I am a realtor in that Las Vegas NV area, but I have a friend that is an agent in the Lake Tahoe area… A vacation home is a great idea right now. There are so many opportunites for buyers right now. I have clients that have vacation homes and they use it while they are in town and then rent it out the rest of the time they are not there. This really helps out the mortgage payment and you are building equity in the mean time. Please contact me if I can refer you to my friend in Tahoe. How about henderson NV, have you heard of it?? That is where I am and I love it. It is a great area that does not even feel like Vegas. There are many parks, trails, golf courses, and of course a ton of things to go and do. The strip is only 15 minutes away. Let me know what you think!
