Has anybody been to Deep Creek Lake in Maryland?

My family which includes my two sons, 18 & 15 w/ 2 of their friends are vacationing for 1 week in August along with my sisters family, three boys ages 21, 18 & 16 w/ their friends. We are renting a large house through Railey Mtn. Lake Vacations in a community named Waterfront Greens. It is located on the most Eastern part of the lake. Any suggestions or recommendations for entertainment, eating and so forth?

    Yes, I have been there several times. There is not much to do in Garrett County if you are looking for theme parks and consumer commercialism. However, it sure is pretty and relaxing, and there are plenty of nature related things to do! Some ideas: downtown Oakland, Randolph Jennings Lake, Swallow Falls State Park (a must!), find the source of the Potomac River, hike to the highest peak in Maryland (not too strenuous), take the chairlift at the Wisp resort, historic Grantsville (and its yummy Penn Alps restaurant), and Deep Creek Lake State Park. There is also whitewater rafting/kayaking nearby with Class V rapids, I believe. The world championship in whitewater kayaking was held here some years ago. Enjoy your trip!
