There is not much to do in Garrett County if you are looking for theme parks and consumer commercialism. However, it sure is pretty and relaxing, and there are plenty of nature related things to do! Some ideas: downtown Oakland, Randolph Jennings Lake, Swallow Falls State Park (a must!), find the source of the Potomac River, hike to the highest peak in Maryland (not too strenuous), take the chairlift at the Wisp resort, historic Grantsville (and its yummy Penn Alps restaurant), and Deep Creek Lake State Park. There is also whitewater rafting/kayaking nearby with Class V rapids, I believe. The world championship in whitewater kayaking was held here some years ago.
