3-3/15 PRINCESS MONONOKE [Backstage]w/EnglishSub
In this 3rd episode of the 3rd series we firstly see the gravity of Ashitaka’s muttering as short a phrase as ”I see…” when he realises to see the Irontown as the very cause of the curse he inherited from Nago, the demonised boar god, while also recognises it as a sacred place for the women (the former prostitutes; picked up by Lady Eboshi) and the lepers (also saved by Eboshi) working there.
Eboshi’s sole loyal aide Gonza is played by Tsunehiko KAMIJO, who and Miyazaki are the neighbors each other in Shinshu (in the northeast) where the two have mountain lodges. When Kamijo-san finishes his part and leaves for his lodge, Director seems to get sort of envious looking at his neighbor leaving for a nice fresh air in the mountain.
Ugly but mysterious Jigobo is acted by a handsome, brilliant actor Kaoru KOBAYASHI (who actually jokes about it to Miyazaki). This Jigobo figure embodies so much complexity within a matured man, who, according to Director, lives in a world of words, logics, sounding phony fishy, but comical all the time. He’s good at convincing people, deceiving people, and preaching sermons while keeping a straight face all the while.
In terms of contrasting this matured comical Jigobo character, Miyazaki explains to Koboyashi the hero Ashitaka as a symbol of gloomy young generation with inherited curses of the reality, that is to say, the ones with AIDS, or Atopic Dermatitis, to name a few.
Lastly, an exquisite actress Yuko TANAKA voices for another extremely important and complicated character Lady Eboshi.
Enjoy this great series anyhow then ( ;
